Doing Good

Since 1936, Delta Gamma’s philanthropic purpose has been to stop blindness before it starts. Through Delta Gamma schools started more than 55 years ago, children who are blind or visually impaired learn specialized skills. Delta Gamma works with over 150 organizations which share our mission to help both children and adults that are not fortunate enough to have eyesight. Contributions to organizations sharing our mission recently exceeded a grand total of $2,800,000 through the Foundation.  Delta Gamma's give more than 86,000 Service for Sight volunteer hours each year. We believe that each Delta Gamma is passionate about Service for Sight and that we will continue to leave a mark in the world.

Service for Sight is an organization that seeks to prevent blindness, increase eye safety awareness, and aid those who are visually impaired. Delta Gamma has started schools for the blind and visually impaired throughout the country. DG's work with Service for Sight to help those that are not fortunate enough to have eyesight. As the Epsilon chapter, we are very lucky because we get the chance to work very closely with The Ohio State School for the Blind, located just north of campus. Members of Delta Gamma work with the children at OSSB on a regular basis. Some of the things Delta Gamma's do at The Ohio State School for the Blind include helping in the classrooms, hosting dance therapy, and volunteering at special events including their annual carnival and talent show.

On top of hands-on work for our philanthropy, Delta Gamma does a lot to raise money for Service for Sight. This year, Epsilon chapter will host Anchor Splash to raise eye awareness and money for Service for Sight. Anchor splash is a synchronized swimming & relay race competition for the sororities and fraternities on campus. Delta Gamma Epsilon also hosts a basketball tournament called Anchor Slam every winter to help us raise money for our philanthropy, as well. Along with our two main philanthropy events we also host smaller fundraisers such as a fall BBQ at our house, Sweets for Sight and Slices for Sight.

This year we even held a Smooch a Pooch kissing both with service dogs so help raise money and awareness for service for sight, and specifically pilot dogs. It was a huge success and we learned so much about how man's best friend helps our favorite cause!
